isla mujeres mexico

this beautiful island is paridise. the caribbean is full of fish and colour and the waves lap lazily throughout the year. there are chairs and umbrellas for rent on the long sandy beaches and if you are there early you can spend the morning alone. it can get a bit full on the weekend and mexican holidays when people come from as far as mexico city. there are places to eat and drink along the beach and lots of things to buy. the mayan women sell their handicrafts along the beach often trailed by their children, the women can be so small that you sometimes wonder if they are children themselves. there are the men selling icecream and coconuts and nuts, it is all there for you. and of course there is always a happy hour going on somewhere!
in town there are the cobblestone streets with venders trying to call you in and music blasting from the bars. there is our favorite bar., chile locos, jorge who owns it is fun and funny, always the clown. he has many repeat customers! in the middle of the strip across from gomars cafe is our friend david's store. he sells hammocks and t shirts and eveythingin between, but he is rarely open anymore since his friend and employee chino (my friend) died. i think that his heart went out of it.
once you are off the main street the prices go down alot and our favorite place to eat is rene and renee's. they are the sweetest older married couple and so kind, they remember everyone and really took to rylan, never paid for his food, alot there! and the prices cant be bet there. it is across the street from where we stayed for $25 usd a night at the osorio hotel. clean local and good hot showers!
